Module 0: Introduction, Motivation and Fundamentals

We introduce numerical analysis as a way of solving mathematical problems resulting from the modelling of physics, and a means of processing and understanting data. The course structure is laid out, and we cover some fundamentals necessary for the main body of the course, namely: Taylor series approximation, computer representation of numbers, and continuity and differentiability of functions. A quick guide to the mathematical notation used in this course is collected in I: Notation.
